Mary Weatherford – L.A
The city is a blur, masked in a thick haze of reefer smoke. Moving at contrasting speeds with the alluring fluidity of mercury, its bright lights and screen stars layer over a seedy underworld, leaving nothing but a glittering film for the entire world to see.
Mary Weatherford immerses herself in the rich tapestry of her past, exploring her relationship with the city she has come to call home, Los Angeles.
Each painting in the collection is an abstract manifestation of a memory, a feeling, an experience, building layer upon layer of vinyl-based acrylic paint to form a delectably rich gauze of emotion.
Neon light pulses through each piece in an array of mesmerizing hues, drawing and repelling the viewers’ attention with equal measure, casting shadows like echoes from Weatherford’s past across the canvas.
